Today we’re talking about one of the biggest website challenges: how to improve your google search rank.
I mention this at the start of every website project. Most business leaders know that engaging content and eye-catching visuals are important. They are essential. But there’s a lot of misunderstanding about how long it takes for a new site to show up in search results.
Many people expect their new site to appear on Google immediately. Makes sense, right? You launch a website, and BAM!—it’s everywhere.
Well… that’s not how it works.
Many factors affect your google search rank. You’ve probably heard the term “SEO,” which is the process of improving your site’s ranking in search engines.
Here’s the catch: it’s a process that takes time.
If you don’t understand that, you might feel frustrated and disappointed. And that’s the last thing you want with your shiny new website.
Since you’re busy running your business, I’ve put together a quick list of things to know before starting a website.
Disclaimer: This list may be a hard pill to swallow. I’m not setting false expectations. I want you to understand the process so you’re prepared. Improving your google search rank is possible, but it takes effort and patience.

The Reality of Google Search Rank: It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint
Launching a new website is exciting. But improving your google search rank doesn’t happen overnight.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Google Needs Time to Find and Read Your Site (called "Indexing")
New websites aren’t listed instantly. Google has millions of pages to process every day. Indexing can take days, weeks, or longer.
Even though I take steps to speed things up, patience is key for your google search rank.
(and unfortunately since neither you or I control Google, there isn’t anything we can do to make indexing go faster.)
2. Ranking High in Google Search Takes Effort
Top-ranking sites invest time, money, and strategy into SEO. It’s not automatic, but it IS achievable.
If you already have a website, here’s a list of tips continue to build your website authority and improve your ranking.
3. New Domains Take Longer to Build Google Search Rank
New domains need time to become trusted by Google. This can affect early rankings.
Tip: Buy your domain as soon as you have a business name, even if you don’t plan to build your site right away. This sets you up for faster growth in google search rank.
4. Strong Google Search Rank Doesn’t Happen Overnight
Even with proper optimization, it takes months to see the full impact. SEO is ongoing. You need consistent effort to improve and maintain your google search rank.
5. Google Search Rank Is Different for Everyone
Every website’s journey is unique. Competition, industry, and strategy all affect how long it takes to rank.
Your website is unique, so your ranking journey will be, too. You can’t compare your journey to someone else's.
No one can tell you exactly how long it will take (if they do, they’re not being honest).
The Bottom Line About Google Search Rank
A great website is a long-term asset. But improving your google search rank takes consistency and strategy.
There’s no magic solution or quick fix. With effort and attention, you can reach your goals, and your website will pay off over time.
