Why I switched to the One Concept Method (and why you should thank me for it)

It's been about a year since any of my clients have asked for changes to their logo.

Everyone's happier with the results, and my process is way faster, way more efficient, and my clients get way more clarity.

Oh, and they get stronger brands, too (win!)

I used to build out multiple concepts for people to choose from... which usually ended up in some mish-mash of different ideas that were never meant to go together. The result was a fragmented, weak brand that felt like it missed the mark (and certainly never made it to my portfolio).

The problem wasn't the clients; it was my process.

I wasn't guiding my clients to the best solution. I was just following what I'd been told was 'design standard.'

But then I switched to the 'one concept design method.'

Now I spend 2-3X more time on the research & strategy and focus on delivering a single concept that's based on deep strategy, not just cool ideas.

What is the One Concept Method in logo design?

Glad you asked! Let me tell you.

The One Concept Method is all about building a solid strategy that guides the whole design process and keeps it focused on what really matters: connecting with your audience.

It's like creating safety guards to keep your brand on track.

We start with initial research, discovery and creative direction to dive deep into what makes your business unique.

But then, this is where the magic happens.

Instead of doing what most designers to and providing multiple concepts to choose from, I rely on detailed research and brand strategy to deliver a single, one-of-a-kind concept that is designed to connect with the values and aesthetics of your target audience.

Once I've walked you through the strategy and decisions behind the design, we can revise from there (but honestly, most of the time we don't even need revisions).

Why the One Concept Method?

Multiple options isn’t going to get you the most effective solution

I focus on delivering a single, high-quality design that is based on what will resonate with your audience and create an effective identity for your brand.

Design for your audience

Strategic design focuses on developing a concept that will resonate with your target audience, earn their trust, and grow your business. Your personal favourite isn’t always what will resonate with your audience. Our design decisions should always focus on what will connect with your target audience because they are the people we’re speaking to.

Mixing & matching from concepts doesn’t solve your problems, it only creates new ones

Taking your favourite pieces from multiple concepts results in a fragmented, weak brand that is based on personal preference rather than strategic decisions.

Decision fatigue

There are a lot of choices to be made throughout the branding process. Focusing on one, single solution will reduce overwhelm and help you stay focused on what truly matters for your brand.

Time-efficient process

By reducing the time required to design multiple concepts, the One Concept Method means a quicker turn-around time (and therefore lower cost) for you.

The Bottom Line

I've found that the One Concept Method delivers a much stronger result for my clients, as it's based on purposeful strategy around your audience & market, rather than trying to make it up as we go and piece together ideas without any strategy .

Your brand should be doing the heavy lifting for you, building trust and catching the attention of your target audience 24/7.

To do that, you need the strategy and focus that comes from the One Concept Method.
